Applications of blister films for medicines. Blister packs, push-through blisters

Blister packs completely replace the outdated form of medicine cans as the packaging material for medicines. The basic material for each blister is a rigid aluminum foil. This has many properties that no other material has. It is very suitable for printing or coating and has the necessary rigidity required for this type of packaging.

Blister films and their properties

We supply blister films in standardized sizes and, on request, in smaller quantities for the production of packaging in the medical and pharmaceutical industries.

Push-through blister

Push-through blisters are predominantly used in the pharmaceutical industry. In order to maintain the effect of the ingredients in medicines, they must be protected from environmental influences, atmospheric oxygen and moisture. This packaging also guarantees adequate storage in areas with exceptional climates. In addition, this form of packaging is much cheaper and, above all, more space-saving than the original cans, bottles or other containers.

A blister contains an individual mold for each tablet, which is neatly covered and sealed by an aluminum foil, also known as blister foil. After the tablets have been placed in their respective cavities, they are sealed airtight with foil and heat-sealing lacquer under strict hygiene regulations.

Pharmaceutical packaging

This means that each tablet or capsule is packaged separately. Although they are in the same pack. This means that they can be unpacked and taken independently of each other. There is no need to worry about the other tablets losing their effect. As with a pill box, for example, where the entire contents are exposed to environmental influences after opening.

There are different types of film. The softer the film, the more force is needed to open it. A hard foil, which is easier to open, is particularly suitable for people with limited hand mobility. For example, due to a rheumatic disease.

There is also the option of using a soft foil that is difficult to push through and is therefore considered childproof. To make them even more robust, there is the option of bonding aluminum with paper and/or PET.

Printing the cover foils

This can protect against tampering with the medication. It is now also possible to print imprints on the blister that are only visible under fluorescent light. This also prevents counterfeit medicines.

The name and expiry date are printed on each blister. This means that the consumer can always recognize what the product is even without a package insert or packaging.
The number of individually printed blister packs has risen sharply in recent years. Particularly in nursing homes, medicines are personalized. These imprints show the patient's name, time of administration, which medicine it is and the batch number. This makes life easier for older people in particular and promotes their independence. It also relieves the nursing staff of a lot of work and helps to avoid errors.
