PE PET PETMET

Areas of application and intended use of PE, PET, PE-MET and PET-MET in industry

Polymers and plastics are used in a wide range of industrial applications. Due to their countless material properties, such as high impact strength, resistance to chemicals or low weight, they enable the implementation of technically demanding applications.

Films and their properties

We supply films made of the basic materials PE and PET and PE-MET and PET-MET in standardized dimensions and also in smaller quantities on request.

Layers are arranged functionally. Carrier film creates stability. Laminating adhesive and bonding agent ensure bonded adhesion. Layers have sealing and barrier properties.

PE polyethylene

Polyethylene is the plastic that is most frequently used in industry and, alongside polyvinyl chloride, is the most commonly produced. It is a semi-crystalline, non-polar thermoplastic.

The plastic is divided into four main groups. These are PE-HD (high-density polyethylene), PE-MD (medium-density polyethylene), PE-LD (low-density polyethylene) and linear polyethylene. Compared to other plastics, polyethylene has a lower hardness and strength as well as reduced rigidity. It has a high cold impact strength and elasticity as well as a low density.

The main areas of application for this plastic are packaging and films (e.g. bin liners or shrink film), injection molded parts, pipes for sewers and cable insulation. In powder form, polyethylene is used to coat paper or textiles. It is also used for molded parts in household goods, for storage and transport containers, pump parts and other machine components.

PET - polyethylene terephthalate

Polyethylene terephthalate, also known as ethylene terephthalate polymer, is a thermoplastic from the polyester group that is produced by polycondensation. The plastic is highly resistant to chemicals (e.g. nitric acid, sulphuric acid and hydrochloric acid) and is therefore widely used in industry. With a share of around 6 % of the total quantity of all plastics produced, it is one of the most important and significant thermoplastics.

It is used for the production of blow-molded plastic bottles and textile fibers. However, PET beverage bottles are the most common. Other examples of applications include magnetic tapes, furniture fittings, gear wheels, adhesive tapes and electrical insulation foils.

PE-MET - metallized polyethylene

PE-MET - polyethylene is a multi-layered and flexible material that is highly resistant to water vapor, grease and gases. It has the property of reflecting UV and infrared radiation. The plastic has good electrical insulating properties and good resistance to cold and heat. It is more impermeable than polyethylene terephthalate or polyethylene.

It is mainly used for packaging a variety of foodstuffs. It is also used for thermal insulation.

PET-MET - metallized polyethylene terephthalate

PET-MET refers to plastics that are coated with a thin layer of aluminum. This increases the density of the material. Metallized PET films appear translucent in the light.

Metallized PET films cover an ever-increasing range of applications in the industry. Metallized polyethylene terephthalate uses only one percent of the amount of aluminium used in conventional aluminium foils. They are therefore cost-effective and environmentally friendly.
