Areas of application for stainless steel and stainless steel foils in industry and technology
Stainless steel is generally understood to be steel that has a special degree of purity. In terms of application, stainless steel is understood to be that which can be classified as rustproof. Stainless steel offers numerous advantages over conventional metals and steels. It is temperature-resistant, weldable, low-maintenance, durable and economical.

Contact with oxygen from the air causes a thin layer of chromium oxide to form on the surface. This can be formed again and again even if damaged and is also referred to as self-healing in materials science. This property in particular can be improved by alloying elements. This further improves the mechanical and chemical properties.
Stainless steel foils are made of wafer-thin stainless steel. The thickness is around 50 µm.
Stainless steel in industry and technology
X2CrNi12, for example, is a stainless, ferritic steel. The chromium content is between 10.5 and 12.5 %. It also contains nickel. This stainless steel is more resistant than conventional structural steels. It has high corrosion resistance, abrasion resistance and very good dynamic strength values. This steel is mainly used in rail vehicle construction, commercial vehicle construction and apparatus engineering.
X20Cr13 is a stainless and chrome-alloyed heat-treated steel. It has a finely ground surface and therefore medium strength. This steel is used in turbine construction, pump construction, the construction of fittings and household appliances.
Another stainless steel is X6Cr17. This is a ferritic steel. The chromium content is 17%. It has good corrosion resistance, but tends to become brittle at an ambient temperature of 20°C. This stainless steel is used in the areas of beverage production, kitchen appliances, medical technology and the furniture industry.
The stainless steel X5CrNi18-10 is also known as V2A. This is an acid-resistant, austenitic stainless steel with a low carbon content. This steel is temperature-resistant up to 600°C. It has good polishability and good formability. This steel is used in sanitary facilities, art objects and in the manufacture of surgical instruments.
Stainless steel foils
Stainless steel foils are mainly used in construction for heat distribution and thermal insulation, e.g. as a separating layer between insulation and heating. Stainless steel foils are also used for springs, insulating glazing or speech membranes. This also includes nickel foil, which is used in medical technology for bursting disks.
Quality
The stainless steel foils we supply comply with the latest standards. ABLAL products undergo continuous quality control, which guarantees you the highest level of product safety.
